Looks like I will be heading to South Texas relatively soon

by spyderman1977 » Tue Aug 08, 2006 11:37 pm

Looks like I will be moving sometime after the first of the year. I just moved to a new house back in March and was waiting for the temps to drop below 100 here before getting out in the back yard to start putting things away in the garage. Now it appears that the wife wants to move south. Its something I have always wanted so now it looks like it will happen.

With that being the case it looks like I will have to thin the heard of cars out some. I had to move most of my cars at a last minute thing and let me tell you that is no fun. Also moving 10 cars 500 miles will not be very fun either.

I will keep the Buicks thats for sure and more then likely the 2 Spyders but the rest will have to go. I will be getting the other cars cleaned up and take some new pics to post in the classified sections.

How far south?

by vega_man_larry » Wed Aug 09, 2006 9:16 am

Austin? San Antonio (new Toyota plant?) or maybe even Corpus or Brownsville? Inquiring South Texans want to know!

Greater Houston/Galveston area

by spyderman1977 » Wed Aug 09, 2006 9:37 am

The wife made a comment a few weeks ago about moving down there. She has liked it down there since the first time she went with me to visit my parents there. My parents are talking about moving back so it would be a win win situation for me.

I personally hate it here where I live and the wife seems to move around and breathe better in that area from all the salt water humidity in the air. Plus the heat up here is just too much to handle with energy prices being the way it is up here.

The wife basically made the right comment about wanting to leave here at the right time and I want to get out of here to. The only problem will be what to do with all the parts and cars that I have. I have a place to put them till I can find a place down there. Thus the reason for thinning the heard from 10 to probably half that. I would need a place like Richard's to store all my parts and there is no such places like that in Galveston.

I am also hoping that the moving down to the Houston area may help in helping my wife who has either Lupus or Arithus or both. She has her good days and bad days but lately in been mostly bad ones so maybe a change in doctors will help.

I am going to wait till after the first of the year before I do anything so I can take care of some things before we move. I made a mistake once of just picking up and moving and I don't want to do that again.

Houston is a nice town

by vega_man_larry » Wed Aug 09, 2006 2:44 pm

If you head to Houston, you may want to look at finding something along HWY 59 on the way to Victoria. Galveston is getting pretty spendy (like Port A) because it's on an island and that seems to be in vogue with transplanted Canadians, Californians and Floridians. Houston has plenty of work, and has some very nice neighborhoods. There are plenty of nice places on the outskirts too. For the 4th largest metro area in the US it is nicer than most. You might be able to find something to fit your collection. You may want to check out the Army civilian jobs in Corpus. They post them on occasion and CCAD isn't that bad of a job.

Houston area

by spyderman1977 » Thu Aug 10, 2006 10:01 am

The wife wants to live on the island and there is plenty of decent housing left on the island. Im going to talk to the landlord my parents had while they lived there since he has some houses on the island as well as back on the mainland. I am looking at some CAD jobs that reguire the use of Soild Works. I have experience with that software and not many places use it because it is so expensive and can be quite complicated when it comes to large assemblies.

The one draw back right now is the insurance issue for the wife. I don't want a lapse in medical coverage for the wife because of her problems with Lupus or R.A. or possibly a combination of the two. Regardless we are hoping to hear about a decision on her S.S. disabilty.

I am also looking into possibly trying to get a job with Shell Oil. A friend I work with offered to help me with that route if need be so I am keeping my options open and going to keep looking around to see whats out there.

you might look at a Boeing Houston job.

by vega_man_larry » Thu Aug 10, 2006 12:04 pm

Boeing has some openings for the CEV (Crew Exploration Vehicle) Program. You may check that out on the external website at boeing.com. If they get the contract award they will be doing some serious hiring and you may find a need for your solid modelling talents. Good luck finding a rental in Galveston. In Port A it's insane what they are getting for rent. By the way the neighbors grandkids just went to the new Schlitterbahn on Galveston. It got a good rating from them and is supposed to be the best one yet.

Damn! Everyone's moving-- we're finally giving up on the commute to Louisville and moving there sometime in the next 6-12 months. UPS opens up an Anchorage pilot base in May '07, and everyone is scrambling to avoid having to move there. Anchorage is a great town, but not too many families want to put up with 4 1/2 months of darkness. So, with all the realignment, it looks line my trips will just get more frequent, so we've decided to make the move after 12 years at UPS.

Can I still be vegaTEX?

MOVE?

by Vega75randy » Tue Aug 15, 2006 1:13 am

I Ani't Moving! Especially north. I've had enough of cold weather to last my lifetime. I went to see my mother in Columbus, Ohio last February (original buckeye) and froze my buns off and wanted to come back south as soon as I got there. I would like to move to east Texas so I can have some trees and RAIN! (and the green lawn that goes with it) The Official H-Body Internet Community • View topic (17)

Grass is overrated

by vega_man_larry » Tue Aug 15, 2006 6:57 am

Randy,

Grass is totally overrated. me I have white rocks mesquite and palm trees. No mowing!!! I occasionally pull weeds. Grass is too much maintenance. East Texas is very nice though.

Yeah Randy, When I told my wife what our choices were I tried to tell my wife that winters in Louisville could be as cold and dreary as Anchorage. But she picked Kentucky.

Moving or anything like that.

by Vega75randy » Fri Aug 18, 2006 10:12 pm

Dave:
I haven't had a chance to come out and see your cars. I'm going to get rid of the Vega to concentrate on the Corvair. I would like to get a MONZA to go with the Corvair MONZA. Since Paul is coming thru my area on his way to the coast I'll try to talk him out of one of his Spiders, now wouldn't that confuse the people at the car shows. It's a spider but not a Corvair but, most people only associate spiders with Porsche or Corvair. Well we still can converse over the web. Good luck in Louisville. I'll have my wings here next month. A half built homebuilt Airplane like the one I have as an Avatar. At least I hope it will look that good.

Take care

VEGA RANDY- THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR NAME TO MONZA/MONZA. IF VEGA TEX HAD TO MOVE TO ANCHORAGE HE WOULD BE VEGA ANCHOR AND THAT JUST WOULDN'T BE RIGHT.----------------

Monza/Monza?

by Vega75randy » Sat Aug 19, 2006 7:09 pm

mldeolde:
Ya gota point there! Well I really would like to confuse the non-car people who only know enough to get them into trouble. The Spider was only for 3 years of the Corvair production starting in 62 and ended in 64. (early body style) These were the turbocharged cars only. Chevrolet continued the turbo model into the late body style but, did not call them Spiders. They were the Corsa model. Then as we know they called another car a Spider that also had the Monza name. That ought to make someone’s head spin with a headache. The Official H-Body Internet Community • View topic (25)
